2017.08.25: ∇brüd origins & Cheersin' to the world
Dear Journal,
“If Project Del’s mission is to make tomorrow a better tomorrow, how is ∇brüd, an automatic coffee maker, going to achieve that?”
Today I woke up to a dream in which we found three investors. We had our first parts 3d-printed and we were putting them together as we all got the news of our achievement. I hugged the nearest body I could find and wept. I wept for the hours of hard work that seemed to be paying off and I wept for the world we're going to make better. Not just because some coffee maker we built, but because of what Project Del stands for and its vision to innovate for a better tomorrow. This naturally leads to the question: "If Project Del's mission is to make tomorrow a better tomorrow, how is ∇brüd, an automatic coffee maker, going to achieve that?"
“I want the world to welcome the user into wakefulness!”
∇brüd has an interesting origins story. My sophomore year of college I built a conceptual implementation of something that would completely revolutionize healthcare and the way we take care of our bodies (a future objective of Project Del). The real implementation of the idea came out to be an internet-of-things alarm clock solution. Throughout that project I used a health watch to monitor heart rate, and using heart rate I could determine a user's current stage of sleep. After the user reached light-sleep and was near their preset alarm time, the watch would wake up their TV and lights. Along with the room waking up, I wanted to extend it to a house waking up. I wanted the world to welcome the user into wakefulness! This naturally brings us upon the first thing in my day, the coffee maker. Thus, ∇brüd was born. I needed an automatic coffee machine that made hot & fresh coffee, ready and waiting in the carafe the moment I woke up. The other requirements were WiFi connected, maintenance free for at least a few days (I don't want to clean the grounds out of my coffee maker every day!), and minimum human involvement.
Finally, after I awoke from my dream and moseyed along downstairs to grab a cup of coffee, I stared into my mug and, for no particular reason, raised it to the sky while whispering to myself, "Cheers to the world!"
Sincerely,
Alex
